Damien LaRue "Septima"

Artist Damien Larue collaborated with AI technology and master printer Perry Obee at Obee Editions to create a limited suite of four hand-printed lithographs that merge digital innovation with traditional printmaking. Starting with AI images of palm leaves designed to mimic hand-drawn lithographs, Larue carefully selected the strongest compositions, treating the process as a creative dialogue between artist and artificial intelligence.

Working in close collaboration with Obee, the artwork was prepared in four layers: three digitally separated in Photoshop and a fourth drawn by Larue on mylar. Each layer was transferred to photo-lithographic plates and printed by hand on the press. The final suite features four distinct color variations, pulled from a curated palette of seven custom inks, with each version produced in an edition of three.

This rare project highlights the intersection of AI art, contemporary lithography, and traditional craft, demonstrating how artists and printers can blend cutting-edge digital tools with centuries-old techniques to push the boundaries of printmaking.
