Katie Walker earned her BA in studio art from Furman University and MFA from the University of Georgia. In 2012, she was included in the South Carolina State Museum’s exhibition Abstract Art in South Carolina 1949-2012. She was also selected for the 701 CCA South Carolina Biennial 2011 and 2015 at 701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia. Her most recent museum solo exhibition was in 2014 at the Greenville County (SC) Museum of Art. In 2015, she was part of the Columbia Museum of Art’s exhibition Independent Spirits. Walker was represented at the 2005 Florence Biennale in Italy, where she was an award winner. Her work was included in New American Paintings, Vol. 40, 2002, and the publication’s 2010 anniversary edition. She currently lives and works out of Greenville, South Carolina.
"In recent years I have been creating work using imagery, special relationships and/or actual plotted points from the memory of a particular place I’ve been, or memories of colorful and important people in my life. Lately I have been continuing this expressionistic “map-making” but, as personal meaning and influences evolve, I am attempting to reconcile new information and knowledge with what is known. By merging residue of the past and imagined scenarios with my daily life, I am making abstract works that reflect broader experiences of life and memory."
