Matt Magee "Moon nooM" Lithograph

This print is a single color lithograph printed from a lithographic stone. Matt made this drawing directly on the stone using traditional lithography crayons. The composition is based on a form of "free writing". In this case, Matt was responding to the form of the swooping and looping letters and embracing the joy in playful writing. The phrase is nonsensical but when spoken has a melodic and sing-song quality reminiscent of poetry and music. Matts work typically references how we organize and interpret writing and language in a visually pleaseing and ordered manner.

Matt Magee holds an MFA from Pratt Institute and a BA in Art History from Trinity University. The artist was awarded two resident fellowships (2007 and 2015) at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, a New York State Foundation for the Arts Grant in 2002 and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant in 1991. His work is  found in the collections of the Tucson Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Phoenix Art Museum, the Museum Foundation of New Mexico, JP Morgan Chase Collection and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University, among many others.
